Today, we're announcing something we've been building toward since day one: SoinsAvec, our flagship assistive communication platform designed for children with speech and language impairments.

"Soins" means "care" in French, and "Avec" means "with" — because this is about care done together. With families. With therapists. With educators. With the child at the center.

Why We Built SoinsAvec

Speech and language challenges affect millions of children globally. Whether it's stuttering, dysarthria, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental delays, these conditions create communication barriers that impact education, social connection, and confidence.

Traditional AAC tools often feel clinical and disconnected from the child's life. Therapy exercises feel like homework. Parents and therapists struggle to communicate across the therapy-home divide. Children using these systems often feel "other."

We wanted to build something different. Something that celebrated communication in all its forms. Something that made therapy feel like play. Something that connected everyone supporting the child.

What's Inside SoinsAvec

i. Adaptive Communication Tools Word prediction, symbol-based communication, and customizable vocabulary banks that learn from how each child communicates.

ii. Interactive Therapy Exercises — Designed by speech-language pathologists, these exercises make therapy engaging without sacrificing clinical rigor. Kids are learning, but they don't feel like they're being tested.

iii. Self-Screening Module — Parents can assess their child's developmental speech and language milestones, getting early indicators of potential delays with clear, actionable guidance.

iv. Care Coordination Hub — Parents, therapists, teachers, and caregivers stay connected. Everyone sees the child's progress. Homework assignments sync across devices. Insights flow both ways.

v. Personalization at Its Core — Every child is unique. SoinsAvec adapts to communication styles, learning preferences, and family context. A child who's pre-verbal gets different tools than a child who stutters, because their needs are different.

Built With You, Not For You

SoinsAvec is shaped by real communities, not abstract hypotheticals. We have tested with families in Nairobi, ensuring that every step is informed by the people who matter most. This journey has been a true team effort, made possible through collaboration with notable assistive tech leaders and organizations, including Senses Hub, the Center for Digital Language Inclusion (CDLI), and the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub). We have consulted widely, listening to speech-language pathologists (SLPs), educators, and parents to understand what are the pain-points and what truly works.

The result? An application that feels less like medical software and more like a trusted companion for the communication journey.

Early Access Coming Soon

SoinsAvec is rolling out in limited early access starting April, 2026. If you're a family, educator, or SLP in East Africa, you can sign up for the beta at umbilabs.com/beta.

Feel free to share this with anyone who might benefit. We're listening to feedback and iterating fast.

What's Next

We've got a lot planned. Offline functionality. Multi-language support. Integration with popular AAC platforms. And most importantly, more community sessions to keep learning from the people who use SoinsAvec every day.

This is just the beginning. And we couldn't be more grateful to everyone who's been part of this journey.
